LEARN ABOUT OUR GENETICS

(and what those letters F1, S1, etc mean)

We breed seeds in organic soil-based enviroments, founded on our farmers outdoor phenohunts. When we find a great cultivar (with a clear history of genetics), and than ID the pheno in our outdoor trials, and we think will propser in our enviroments, than its on… The breeding program begins with cloning the mother, and making one of her clones become the male pollinator.

S1 – when the pollinator (female turned male) pollinates a clone of herself the first time. These seeds are called “Selfed” seeds. This single plants collection of seeds have no additional genetics added, the phenotypical current expression becomes more locked in. critically approaching thihs, there is more of the good AND more of the bad is now visable. When we grow out this seedstock and find the “best for us” expression, than we repeat this process and create an S2 creating more stable genetics and great, true breeding stock. This type of seed is great for the homegrow cause of staggered but near identical harvest.

F1 – When the pollinator (female turned male) pollinates a different “pure” / landrace / well developed cultivar, from another genetic line, the first time. This is often called a hybrid “genotype” due to the mix of genetics from both parents.

F2 – When the pollinator (female turned male) pollinates another plant from the same seedstock, the first time. ex:F1 x F1 = F2. This offers a larger view into the genetics available in the seeds stock. Many genetic exressions are displaying in a large grow of this type of seed, which makes it easier to identify the winner phenotypes to continue to breed with. Great for the staggered harvest homegrows and for the phenohunting farmer. Standard step in open pollintion breeding practices creates this type of seedstock.

Bx & Rx – When the plant being pollinated is pollinated by one of her origonal parents (female turned male). This is also called inbreeding, and is often used in plant breeding programs to create a seedstock simular to the F2 stock. Farmers can hunt a wider option of possible phenotypes from this seedstock, finding the winners to clone/breed with. Staggered harvest can help the homegrower from these seeds.

Morphology – refers to the seeds coming from this seedstock range of diversity.

Genotype – refers to the way the plant grows.

Phenotype – refers to a specific group of traits a single seed expresses in a specific enviroment.

Chemotype – refers to the effect of the plant on humans. Sativa, indica & hybrid are trying to do this as well (We now know this is due to the plants terpenes entourage effect).

Sativa – refers to a specific set of uplifting effects we get when smoked, used topicaly or injested. Due to the terpenes the plant has produced, and still has when used.

Indica – refers to a specific set of body based, chill out effects we get when smoked, used topicaly or injested. Due to the terpenes the plant has produced, and still has when used.
